“Dress” to Impress

I remember as a child, I couldn’t wait to get older so that I can get all dressed up and go to fancy parties, looking beautiful. And there is nothing worst than going to an event and not having that perfect dress, that makes its presence known without you having to say a word. The goal is always to “dress to impress.” At least in my mind it is and that is something my father always instilled in me. I’m the type of girl who shop months in advance looking for the perfect dress.

Depending on the type of event, I have listed different dress options in order to ensure that you are always ready to “dress to impress.”

Cocktail Hour

Whenever there is a special event, such as a birthday, homecoming, Sweet 16 or prom, we women are always on the prowl for the perfect dress.  If you don’t want to blend in with the rest, choosing the right dress is essential. I believe that the cocktail dress is the perfect party dress. It’s usually a cute, fun and flirty dress that stands out from the norm. The cocktail dress allows you to be dressed for the occasion while ensuring that you stand out from the crowd.

Formal Attire

When an invitation or an event comes with the “formal attire” dress code restriction, it can be a little challenging in choosing the right dress. When I envision a formal dress, I think of sophistication, class and elegance. Formal doesn’t mean you can’t wear something sexy or revealing, however I would choose something that shows that I am a woman without having to reveal too much. I would never want to feel uncomfortable in what I’m wearing, especially to an event with a formal dress code. Dressing for the occasion doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice looking and feeling beautiful. It’s all about choosing the right dress for the occasion.

Evening Gown

Wearing a long dress is no longer limited to prom, weddings and galas.  I have seen woman from all over wear it for their birthday, to the club and even to dinner. A maxi dress would more so be worn during the day, while the evening dress can be worn to any nighttime event. I find the difference between a formal dress and an evening dress is that while a formal dress can be more classic in nature, the evening dress is more daring and sexy. A formal dress can be worn to both a daytime and nighttime event because the overall look is more subtle than an evening dress. Choosing between the two styles is dependent upon the person and the type of event they are attending. The dress below is a perfect birthday dress, where you can feel sexy and definitely steal the spotlight!

Plus-Size Wear

The beauty of women is that we all come in different shapes and sizes. And being able to find a site that gives you a wide variety in options is a plus. Too often do I hear how difficult it is for women to find plus-size dresses that are of quality and of equal desirability of dresses made for the smaller size dress options. Often times I find the issue to be that some women don’t know how to dress for their body type. A plus-size girl can look and dress just as well as someone of a smaller dress size; the key is about knowing what works best for you. I love how the dress below captures the beauty of a woman, regardless of her size. No woman should ever be made to feel less than just because of her size.

One of my favorite fashion quotes by Nina Garcia is, “style comes from knowing who you are and who you want to be in the world; it does not come from wanting to be someone else, or wanting to be thinner, shorter, taller, prettier.” We are all beautiful and there’s nothing better than finding the perfect dress to accentuate who you already are.
